The mechanism
What exactly is Dude, It's Firing!?
A text-alert service for surfers. You pick your spots, and Dude, It's Firing! watches live wind, swell, and tide data for those spots 24/7. When conditions actually line up at a specific break, you get one text. It is not a forecast app, a dashboard, or a daily digest — there is nothing to check and nothing to open.
How does it decide when to text me?
Each monitored spot is scored continuously on factors including wave height, swell period, swell direction relative to what that specific break needs, wind speed and direction, and tide. Every spot has its own minimum thresholds tuned to how that break actually works — a beach break needs different conditions than a point break or a reef. A text only goes out when the combined score clears a high bar, not just when one factor looks decent.
Why does my spot need a specific swell direction?
Every break has a swell window — a range of directions that will actually wrap in and break well there. Swell from the wrong angle can look promising on paper while the actual spot stays flat or messy, because a headland, reef, or the coastline angle blocks or refracts it. Dude, It's Firing! checks direction against each spot's real swell window, not just raw height.
Is there proof the alerts are real?
Yes — the Firing Board shows real recent alerts sent to subscribers, updated continuously.
Pricing & coverage
What does Dude, It's Firing! cost?
Dude's Free Trial — $0AUD/year, 1 spot. Locals Only — $19.99AUD/year, 5 spots. Coast Rat — $29.99AUD/year, 10 spots. All plans bill once annually, not monthly, with no hidden fees.
Is there a free plan?
Yes — Dude's Free Trial is $0AUD/year and covers 1 spot, so you can see what a real alert looks like before paying for anything.
Does founder pricing ever go up?
Pricing increases as capacity fills, but early subscribers who lock in founder pricing keep that rate for life — it doesn't increase later for existing subscribers.
What spots and regions are covered?
227 surf spots across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, and Tasmania, each monitored continuously with its own tuned thresholds.
Can I pick which spots I get alerts for, and change them later?
Yes. Every plan lets you choose your own spots up to your plan's limit. To change spots later, just reply CUTBACK to any alert text — no login or account needed.
How it compares
How is this different from Surfline or a forecasting app?
Forecast apps show you a prediction and expect you to check it, interpret it, and decide. Dude, It's Firing! does that interpretation for you and only reaches out — by text, not a notification you have to open an app to see — when conditions are actually firing right now at your spot. No app, no dashboard, no login.
Will it spam me with texts?
No. It only alerts when conditions are genuinely good at your spot, based on the same threshold scoring used for every subscriber. If conditions are flat for weeks, you simply won't hear from it — that silence is the point, not a bug.
What if my spot is flat for weeks?
That's normal — surf is seasonal. It means when you do get a text, it's worth trusting and dropping what you're doing, because every alert reflects a real, scored threshold being met rather than a routine update.
Signup & privacy
Why does Dude, It's Firing! need my phone number?
Purely to text you when your spot is firing. It's not used for advertising, and it's not sold.
When will I get my first alert after signing up?
It depends on the season for your chosen spots. Peak season is generally winter for the east coast and WA, and autumn/winter for Victoria and Tasmania — a first alert can arrive within days during that window. Outside it, it can take a few weeks, because Dude, It's Firing! waits for real conditions rather than sending something just to be timely.
How do I stop alerts or unsubscribe?
Every text includes a one-tap STOP option. It takes effect immediately, with no login and no account to delete.
