Premium Removes the Ads. It Doesn’t Remove the Homework.
Every Surfline plan gets you more of something: cams, no ads, a longer forecast, slicker cam tools. What none of them gets you is an answer. At every price, you're still the one reading the numbers and deciding whether your spot is on.

What each tier actually buys
Surfline's paid plans are genuinely good at what they do. Here's what the money gets you, as listed on Surfline's own plan page on October 12, 2026:
- Premium with Ads (~AU$100/yr): the live cams, the 16-day forecast and the forecasters' reports, with ads still on the page.
- Premium (~AU$172/yr): all of that, ad-free.
- Premium+ (~AU$214/yr): all of that, plus Smart Cam tools: scrub through recent cam footage, see crowd predictions, and pull clips of your waves.
*Surfline lists these prices in US dollars; AUD figures are approximate conversions at current exchange rates (about 1.43). Actual app-store pricing in Australia may vary.
Every step up gives you more to look at, or a cleaner way to look at it. None of them looks for you.
The homework doesn't change with the price
Whatever you pay, the routine is the same: open the app, check swell size and period, check the direction against your spot's window, check the wind, check the tide, and work out whether all of that lines up at your break right now. A better cam makes that faster to confirm. A longer forecast lets you do it further ahead. It's still homework, and it's still yours.
We wrote about the free version of this in our post on the cam paywall. The point here is that paying more doesn't take the homework away. It gives you better tools to do it with.
Surfline sells better ways to read the ocean. We sell the verdict.
Doing the homework once, for you
We set the threshold for every spot we track: the combination of swell size, period, direction, wind and tide that actually makes that spot work, based on how it really breaks. You don't configure it; we've already built it, and we tighten it when real sessions tell us it's off. Then we keep checking the live buoy, wind and tide data against it throughout the day and text you when your spot crosses the line.
That's a different product, not a cheaper copy of Surfline. You don't get cams or a 16-day chart. You get the one thing none of the tiers above include: a decision, made for your spot, delivered when it matters.
What it costs
If you love reading charts and watching the lineup, Surfline is built for you. If you'd rather just know when to go, that's what we do, and you can try it free on one spot.
