Jan Juc is the beach between Torquay and Bells, backed by sandstone cliffs. It's where many Surf Coast locals surf most often: closer than Bells, more exposed than Torquay, and with a mix of sand and reef.
What Jan Juc offers
The beach picks up more swell than Torquay's front beaches and sets up peaks on the sand. Reef at either end, including Bird Rock, adds more defined waves on the right swell and tide. North winds are offshore.
It's exposed to the Southern Ocean, so there's rarely a shortage of swell. The question is usually wind. Mornings and northerly days are when it shines.
Worth knowing
- The cliffs are unstable. Stay on marked paths.
- Rips are common between the banks.
- The water is cold year-round.
